Penn Elcom Limited fined £80,000 after a lorry driver fell from a trailer while loading cages

What happened

A Class 1 lorry driver delivering and collecting goods was manually moving cages to and from a cage carrier on the trailer. When a cage wheel became stuck, the cage fell and the driver stepped backwards, falling from the trailer.

Injuries: Brain injury and multiple fractures; unable to work since the incident.
