St Olaves Marina Limited fined £2,000 after a contractor's hand was crushed beneath telehandler forks

What happened

A contractor was assisting with a boat being lifted by a telehandler operated by marina staff. As the boat was raised, the worker's hand was crushed beneath the telehandler forks.

Injuries: Amputation of the fourth finger on the right hand.

Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974

What would have prevented it

Prepare a simple lift plan before using a telehandler for boat lifts, and keep hands clear of the load and forks while it is raised.
