FMP West Midlands Limited fined £24,000 after a worker's hand became trapped in unguarded polishing machine cogs

What happened

A worker loading a tube polishing machine with faulty rollers was forced to lean over and manually straighten metal tubes when a hand became caught in the unguarded rotating cogs and chains.

Injuries: Ring finger severed to the first knuckle; middle and index fingers crushed, requiring eight surgeries.

  • Costs: £4,073
  • Other sentence: £2,000 victim surcharge
