On 28 October 2024 a site operative was struck by a mobile shredder while accessing the tipping yard and was trapped between a gate post and the shredder. HSE found the company had not managed the movement of pedestrians and vehicles at the site, so it had become custom and practice for pedestrians to walk in areas close to moving vehicles, including the shredder, lorries and forklift trucks.
Injuries: Life-changing and life-threatening crush injuries.

Waste sites must actively manage pedestrian and vehicle movement, with adequate segregation or separation distances, and not let walking near moving plant become custom and practice.
