A 20-tonne tipper truck fell approximately two metres off the edge of an excavation ramp at an HS2 construction site after drivers used an unprotected route created by an unannounced change to the earthworks team's working area. The vehicle landed on its side.

Any change to vehicle routes on a live site must be communicated to drivers before it takes effect, not discovered by them on the move.
