Two workers sustained finger injuries in separate machinery incidents within ten days. One reached into a sanding machine ventilation port and contacted a rotating metal disk, while the other's hand contacted a table saw blade while cutting plastic strips.
Injuries: First worker: what was left of her middle finger was removed and another finger, seriously damaged, will also need to be amputated. Second worker: lost part of the index finger above the knuckle and had the top of his middle finger removed in surgery several days later.

Adequate guarding, proper training, safe systems of work and a suitable risk assessment need to be in place for every machine, including small-material cutting jobs, so that one machine's failings do not repeat on another.
