An unregistered and unqualified gas fitter installed a combi boiler and pipework at a family home, after which one of the occupiers smelled gas near the meter box. They contacted Cadent, who identified three separate gas leaks, and the gas supply had to be shut off for six weeks, leaving the family without heating or hot water. HSE was alerted by Gas Safe, which classified the work as Immediately Dangerous.
